Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
The salon has been here in Simi Valley for 21 years. It opened it s doors in 1987. I have owned it for 9 years now.
What is your primary product or service?
We do a lot of everything. Hair, skin and nails. I also have a few ladies who do permanent make-up right here in the salon. We also do extensions, lash perming, and piercing. Our main retail lines are Redken and Nioxin for those with fine hair or hair loss. We also carry "Revitalash", a product to help grow your own eye lashes and eye brows. The product is amazing. We also now carry GHD flat irons that will also curl your hair and wave your hair in nothing flat. There are also purses and jewlery and a variety of other gifts. Gift cards are real popular especially during the holiays. It takes the guess work out of what to get your loved one.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My husband and I were transferred back to Calif. after a military stay in the southern states for 4 years. I decided to go to Beauty Collage after my 2nd child was born. I received my state license and went back to Beauty Collage to receive my teaching licencse. I taught in the Collage for 9 months and decided that I like working in the Salon more than teaching. I have been doing hair for 26 years, and I go to most hair shows and classes. I have been a platinum member of Your Beauty Network for 3 years now. That is where I recieved my knowledge of running a sucessful business by taking the coaching classes for 12 weeks and then extra teleclasses and I have access to all of their products online.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are mostly a rental Salon with private booths. With the YBN membership I am able to help the ladies here with all kinds of information and training products. We strive to make all clients feel welcome and comfortable and really work with them to achieve the perfect balance for the hair and make-up and body structure.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We only have one location in Simi Valley.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are located on the South-East corner of Tapo Canyou and Alamo St. Check out our web site for a map location. www.thebestlittlehairhouse.com.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Because this is a rental Salon, the ladies work for themselves and some of the ladies here do not use the charge machine. Please check with her before your appointment.
Which areas do you service?
We service the head, face hands and feet. Linda also does waxing.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Patty Hardy and her husband David own the Salon. I have a trained head receptionist that actually runs the front desk and also has other responsibilitys such as inventory for the whole Salon, appointment books kept up to date, decorating, and marketing. Patty works behind the chair 4 days a week and does all of the paper work and payroll.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open 7 days a week, though not usually on Holidays. Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays 9am-5pm. Tuesday through Friday 9am-7pm. We stay open later if we are busy and take late evening appointments. A few of the ladies will also take early morning appointments.
